I was an active member of Sheffield Junior Chamber of Commerce (now known as JCI Sheffield) for over thirteen years. This is a personal development organisation which was closely involved with Sheffield civic life. Through weekly meetings, presentations, outside visits and organising events this was a very useful networking and learning experience. I was a very active public speaker and debater (even starring in the SJCC Pantomime one year!), and was also a member of the Sheffield Lord Mayor's Parade Committee for several years - a Committee which I chaired one year. I also organised Balls, dinners and numerous other events during my long membership. In recognition of my contribution I was awarded a Senatorship of Junior Chamber International.
When I moved to Chichester I became an active member of Arun Speakers Club, a public speaking club affiliated to Toastmasters International. I have served on the Committee of the Club for six years, and was President for one year. I also served as Webmaster for two years, setting up the Club's current website as well as the Facebook page, Twitter feed and LinkedIn page. I have achieved the Advanced Communicator (Bronze), Competent Communicator and Competent Leader Awards within the Club.
