Immediately after graduation I worked for the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce in a wide ranging role which was an ideal introduction to the Sheffield business and economic scene. I worked with the Representation Committees which considered initiatives and legislation proposed by national and local government, and coordinated responses on behalf of local industry to the relevant institutions. I liaised with local TV, radio and newspapers to arrange appropriate coverage of these issues, and was regularly interviewed for radio and local newspapers. I also arranged the Chamber's training seminar programme, managed the telex / fax bureau and edited the monthly information bulletin.
I returned to the Chamber of Commerce some years later to work on a project jointly funded by Sheffield Training and Enterprise Council to promote Management Development. This contract moved directly to the TEC the following year where I continued to promote management development alongside NVQs and Investors in People.
I have also worked as an Administrator for the South Yorkshire Crown Prosecution Service and a Database Administrator for the Westfield Health Scheme.
